About the Blackhawks
The Gloucester Blackhawks Rep "B" Minor Hockey are
competitive players from the minor hockey associations of Blackburn,
Gloucester Centre and Leitrim.
The Rep "B" or Representative "B" teams were established to bridge the gap
between individual minor hockey association house leagues (Leitrim,
Blackburn, Gloucester Centre) and competitive "AA" and "AAA" teams
(Gloucester Rangers and Ottawa 67's jr).
Rep teams play in a league which permits players to play against players
of equal ability, in order to improve his/her skills and character to play
at the next higher individual and team skill level. In addition, Rep "B"
may constitute the first occasion where a youngster will play hockey with
body contact (as our house leagues are non-contact). Generally speaking,
Rep "B" teams travel greater distances to play, practice more often and
play more games than house league teams.

Competitive Hockey
Competitive hockey teams will be on ice
approximately 110 hours over the season for practices and games
(exhibition, league and tournaments). Many teams include off-ice training
to improve conditioning and basic athleticism.
League games can be as far away as Kingston, although at the Rep B level,
Perth is as far as most teams travel.
League fees for most Ottawa area associations run between $350 and $400.
Competitive association fees (on top of the home association fees) are
approximately $200 to $800.
Team fees can range from approximately $300 to $1000 depending on the
level.
Team fundraising and sponsor recruitment is also necessary.
The average competitive team will travel to three out-of-town tournaments
per season, more if the team decides.
